Methodology and quality reports

Methodology and quality reports are a part of metadata, that is, information describing statistical data. These reports describe the production and release of statistics: data collection, data aggregation, release policy, institutional mandate, comparability, accessibility, accuracy, and so on. This information gives users a better understanding of statistics and allows an assessment of the reliability of the published data and their suitability for reuse.

Methodology and quality reports are based on the SIMS (Single Integrated Metadata Structure) standard, developed by the European Statistical System (ESS) and Eurostat, and on the ESMS (Euro-SDMX Metadata Structure) standard which is a subset of SIMS. The standards ensure the uniform and comparable presentation of metadata in the European Statistical System.
