Organic farming area and number of organic livestock decreased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the organic farming area in Estonia was 225,300 hectares, representing 22.8% of total utilised agricultural area. 92% of the organic farming area was fully converted and the rest was under conversion. Compared with 2022, the organic farming area decreased by 2.5%, and 78 organic producers ceased activities.

Unemployment rate reached 7.1 percent

According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2020, the labour force participation rate was 70.4%, the employment rate was 65.4%, and the unemployment rate was 7.1%. There were 49,400 unemployed persons, which is 14,400 more than in the first quarter.

Exports of goods reached last year’s level

According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2020, compared to June 2019, the exports of goods remained at the same level and imports decreased by 8%. In the second quarter of 2020, exports decreased by 15% and imports by 18% year on year.

Domestic tourism helped Estonian accommodation establishments

According to Statistics Estonia, in June, 121,000 domestic tourists and 42,000 foreign tourists stayed in Estonian accommodation establishments. Their total number of nights spent was 301,000. Compared to June 2019, the number of tourists dropped by 60%, but their number was higher than in the last few months.

Teams representing Estonia at the European Statistics Competition announced

Based on the results of the public choice competition, in the younger age group, Estonia will be represented at the European Statistics Competition by team Fresiito from Tallinn Secondary School of Science and team Mamika from Lüganuse School. In the older age group, due to the withdrawal of one of the teams, team Numbritaat from Viljandi Gymnasium and team Merkintä from Narva Pähklimäe Gymnasium moved directly to the European phase of the competition.

According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2020, compared to May 2019, the exports of goods decreased by 25% and imports by 24%. Compared to April 2020, exports decreased by 2% and imports remained at the same level.

Consumer price index on the rise again

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in June 2020 was 0.9% compared to May 2020 and –1% compared to June of the previous year. Compared to June 2019, goods were 0.8% and services 1.2% cheaper.
