In November, the industrial producer price index was affected the most by price increase in electricity production

In November 2021, the producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 1.1% compared to October 2021 and by 19.1% compared to November 2020.

According to Eveli Šokman, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, compared to October, the index was affected the most by price increases in electricity production and in the manufacture of parts and accessories for motor vehicles, fuel oils, paper and food products. “Falling prices in the manufacture of wood and metal products had the opposite impact on the index,” added Šokman.

Compared to November 2020, the producer price index was primarily affected by price increases in the manufacture of wood and wood products, in electricity production and in the manufacture of metal products.

In November, compared to October, the export price index rose by 1.0%. The biggest price increases occurred in electricity production, in the manufacture of paper and paper products as well as agricultural products. Prices fell the most for oil products and wood products. The export price index has been rising for fourteen consecutive months. Compared to November 2020, the export price index increased by 20.8%.

The import price index rose by 2.0% compared to the previous month. Prices increased the most in mining and quarrying, electricity production and manufacture of chemical products. Prices decreased the most in the manufacture of wood products, construction materials and textile products. The import price index has been on the rise for twelve months in a row. Compared to November 2020, the import price index increased by 24.8%.
