In October, stores selling manufactured goods had the best results in retail trade

According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2021, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 784 million euros. Compared to October 2020, turnover increased by 10% at constant prices.

Jaanika Tiigiste, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, in October, turnover increased in grocery stores and in stores selling manufactured goods as well as in enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel. “Among these three, the growth in turnover was the biggest in stores selling manufactured goods at 16%. Turnover increased in all economic activities,” added Tiigiste.

Among stores selling manufactured goods, the highest growth (31%) was recorded in the turnover of stores selling via mail order or the internet. A higher than average growth in turnover was also recorded in pharmacies and stores selling cosmetics (22%) and in stores selling household goods and appliances, hardware and building materials (21%).

Compared to October 2020, turnover increased by 5% in both grocery stores and enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel.

In October, compared to September, the turnover of retail trade enterprises decreased by 2%. According to the seasonally and working-day adjusted data, the decrease in turnover was 1%.

In the first ten months of 2021, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased by 11% compared to the same period of the previous year.

The statistics are based on the VAT declaration data of the Estonian Tax and Customs Board. Statistics Estonia performs the statistical activity “Financial statistics of trade enterprises (monthly)” for the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications in order to determine how the Estonian economy is doing.
