Estonia produces 71% of the meat consumed here

According to Statistics Estonia, 76,500 tonnes of meat were produced in Estonia in 2024, which is 1% more than the year before. The average annual meat production was 56 kg per person. Including imported meat, a total of 78 kg of meat per person were consumed during the year. 71% of the meat consumed in Estonia in 2024 was locally produced.

Tax ratio increased due to indirect taxes

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the Estonian overall tax ratio was 36% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Compared to 2008, the ratio of taxes rose by 4 percentage points, mostly due to the increase of excise duties.

General Government budget’s deficit decreased

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the Estonian general government sector deficit was 1.7% and gross debt level was 7.2% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In the 4th quarter the Estonian general government sector surplus was 4.3 billion kroons.

In January exports grew on account of mineral products

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2010 exports of goods grew by 11% and imports declined by 3% compared to the same month of 2009. The increase in exports was mainly influenced by the steep growth in the dispatches of oil products and fuel oils.

Estonian transport enterprises had a difficult year

According to Statistics Estonia, the sharp decrease of freight volume of transport enterprises in Estonia continued in 2009. The freight turnover decreased by 13% and the economic crisis affected remarkably the road transport enterprises. Passenger transport did not change significantly.

Last year the biggest downfall of the GDP was recorded in the 2nd quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 14.1% compared to the previous year. The biggest downfall was in the 2nd quarter when the GDP decreased by 16.1%. After that, the decrease gradually decelerated. In the 4th quarter, the GDP decreased by 9.5% according to the first estimates.
