GDP flash estimate: economy grew by 1.2% in Q1
According to Statistics Estonia’s preliminary estimate, in the first quarter of 2025, the gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 1.2% compared with the first quarter of last year.
Estonia produced 189.5 million eggs last year, one in two eggs eaten is locally produced
According to Statistics Estonia, 189.5 million eggs were produced in Estonia in 2024, which is 6% more than the year before. The average annual egg production was 138 eggs per person. Including imported eggs, 16.2 kg or 259 eggs per person were consumed during the year.
Estonia produces 71% of the meat consumed here
According to Statistics Estonia, 76,500 tonnes of meat were produced in Estonia in 2024, which is 1% more than the year before. The average annual meat production was 56 kg per person. Including imported meat, a total of 78 kg of meat per person were consumed during the year. 71% of the meat consumed in Estonia in 2024 was locally produced.
HICP flash estimate: prices down by 0.3% in March
According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in March 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) decreased by 0.3% compared with February and increased by 4.3% compared with March last year.
There were more foreign tourists accommodated in August (corrected on 11.10.2024)
According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments served 455,000 tourists in August 2024, which is 6% more than in August last year. The number of foreign tourists increased, whereas the number of domestic tourists decreased.
In September, the prices of juices and syrups increased the most among food products
Industrial production in August declined significantly in the manufacture of wood
According to Statistics Estonia, in August 2024, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 6% at constant prices compared with August 2023. Among the three industrial sectors, output increased by 1.9% in mining but decreased by 5.6% in electricity production and by 6.4% in manufacturing.
Which smart devices do people in Estonia use at home?
According to Statistics Estonia, there has been a considerable rise in the use of Internet of Things devices over the last four years. The use of smart TVs has risen by 30%, and the use of smart watches has increased by as much as 60%. Internet-connected home appliances and voice-activated virtual assistants are also increasingly popular among households.
Retail trade volume has fallen for two years in a row
According to Statistics Estonia, in August 2024, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was €889 million. Compared with August 2023, the volume of retail trade turnover fell by 4%.
