Organic farming area and number of organic livestock decreased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the organic farming area in Estonia was 225,300 hectares, representing 22.8% of total utilised agricultural area. 92% of the organic farming area was fully converted and the rest was under conversion. Compared with 2022, the organic farming area decreased by 2.5%, and 78 organic producers ceased activities.

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2017, the producer price index of industrial output changed by 0.0% compared to January and by 3.9% compared to February 2016.

The number of agricultural holdings continues to decrease

According to Statistics Estonia, the preliminary results of the Farm Structure Survey 2016 indicate that there were 16,700 agricultural holdings with at least one hectare of agricultural area or agricultural holdings mainly producing for sale in Estonia, which is approximately 2,500 holdings less than three years ago.

In the 4th quarter of 2016, there were nearly 9,000 job vacancies

According to Statistics Estonia, there were nearly 9,000 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia in the 4th quarter of 2016. Compared to the 3rd quarter, when the number of job vacancies reached a 7-year high, in the 4th quarter, the number of job vacancies decreased by 18%. Foreign trade continued to grow in January

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2017, the exports of goods increased by 14% and imports by 40% compared January 2016. In February, the consumer price index was affected the most by transport

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in February 2017 was 1.3% compared to January 2017 and 3.4% compared to February of the previous year.

In January, the number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2017, domestic and foreign tourists who stayed in Estonian accommodation establishments numbered 192,000, which was 8% more than in January 2016.

The stable turnover growth of retail trade enterprises continued in January

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2017, compared to January 2016, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased 2% at constant prices. Compared to the same month of the previous year, turnover has shown a stable two-percent growth for the second month in succession.

In January, the volume of industrial production was greater than a year ago

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2017, the production of industrial enterprises increased 7% compared to January of the previous year. Production increased in mining and quarrying and manufacturing, but decreased in the energy sector.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2016, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,146 euros; compared to 2015, the average monthly gross wages and salaries increased by 7.6%. The annual average monthly gross wages and salaries increased in all economic activities. The monthly gross wages and salaries were highest in the 4th quarter.

The Estonian economy grew last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2016, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased 1.6% compared to 2015. In the 4th quarter of 2016, the Estonian economy grew 2.7% compared to the 4th quarter of 2015.
