The most populous country is India, and the world's population will continue to increase until at least 2084. This is according to the population projection published by the United Nations in July.

In the 1st quarter, the rise in average wages and salaries continued to decelerate
According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2017, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,153 euros and the average hourly gross wages and salaries 7.13 euros. Compared to the 1st quarter of 2016, the average monthly gross wages and salaries increased 5.7% and the average hourly gross wages and salaries 3.9%. The year-over-year growth in average monthly gross wages and salaries was 1.2 percentage points slower than in the previous quarter and the year-over-year growth decelerated for the fourth successive quarter.

Construction volumes increased in the 1st quarter
According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2017 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and foreign countries increased 20%. Taking into account only the Estonian construction market, the construction volumes increased 18%. It is the biggest increase in construction volumes in the last five years.

Estonia’s net migration was positive in 2016
According to Statistics Estonia, 14,822 persons immigrated to and 13,792 persons emigrated from Estonia in 2016. Immigration exceeded emigration for the second year. Most of the migrants were Estonian citizens, but their net migration was negative.

The industrial producer price index increased in April
According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2017, the producer price index of industrial output changed by 0.3% compared to March and by 3.7% compared to April 2016.

The volume of aquaculture production sold increased last year
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2016, aquaculture enterprises sold 868 tonnes of commercial fish and crayfish, with a total value of 3.7 million euros. The volume of aquaculture production sold in 2016 was among the highest in 20 years.

Last year, the growth of the average monthly gross income continued
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2016, the average monthly gross income per employee was 1,073 euros. The growth of gross income continued at the same rate as in previous years (6%), however, the number of people receiving income started to decrease for the first time since the years of the economic crisis.

Employment indicators improved at the beginning of the year
According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2017, the unemployment rate was 5.6%, the employment rate 66.3% and the labour force participation rate 70.2%. The labour force participation rate reached a record level in comparison with the 1st quarters of previous years.

The number of museum visits was up last year
Museums continue to be popular in Estonia. According to Statistics Estonia, there were 3.5 million museum visits in 2016, which is 6% more than the year before.

In March, trade growth continued
According to Statistics Estonia, in March 2017, the exports of goods increased by 15% and imports by 12% compared to March 2016. In the first quarter of this year, exports increased by 12% and imports 17%, compared the same period of 2016.

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in April 2017 was 0.3% compared to March 2017 and 3.2% compared to April of the previous year.

Last year the carriage of passengers and goods declined
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2016, the number of passengers served by Estonian transport enterprises decreased by 3% and the freight volume in tonnes decreased by 1% compared to the previous year. The number of passengers increased in sea and rail transport, but decreased in road and air transport. Carriage of goods increased in road transport, but decreased in rail transport.
