Organic farming area and number of organic livestock decreased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the organic farming area in Estonia was 225,300 hectares, representing 22.8% of total utilised agricultural area. 92% of the organic farming area was fully converted and the rest was under conversion. In the 1st quarter, the number of job vacancies exceeded 11,200

According to Statistics Estonia, there were over 11,200 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia in the 1st quarter of 2017. This is the highest number of job vacancies in the past 8 years. While in the previous quarter, the number of job vacancies reached slightly above 9,000, in the 1st quarter, the number of job vacancies increased by 24%.

In May, the consumer price index was affected the most by food

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in May 2017 was 0.2% compared to April 2017 and 3.3% compared to May of the previous year.

In April, the number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased

According to Statistics Estonia, 257,000 domestic and foreign tourists stayed in Estonian accommodation establishments in April 2017, which was 14% more than in April 2016.

In April, the volume of industrial production was greater than a year ago

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2017, the production of industrial enterprises increased 10% compared to April of the previous year. Production increased in the energy sector, mining and quarrying as well as manufacturing.

Economic growth rate accelerated in the 1st quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased 4.4% in the 1st quarter of 2017 compared to the 1st quarter of the previous year.

In April, the turnover growth of retail trade enterprises decelerated

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2017, compared to April 2016, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased 1% at constant prices. While in March the turnover increased 5% compared to the same month of the previous year, in April the growth decelerated.

The profit of the business sector increased in the 1st quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2017, the total profit of the business sector was 612 million euros, which was 18% more than in the same period the year before.

In the 1st quarter, the rise in average wages and salaries continued to decelerate

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2017, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,153 euros and the average hourly gross wages and salaries 7.13 euros. Compared to the 1st quarter of 2016, the average monthly gross wages and salaries increased 5.7% and the average hourly gross wages and salaries 3.9%. The year-over-year growth in average monthly gross wages and salaries was 1.2 percentage points slower than in the previous quarter and the year-over-year growth decelerated for the fourth successive quarter.

Construction volumes increased in the 1st quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2017 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and foreign countries increased 20%. Taking into account only the Estonian construction market, the construction volumes increased 18%. It is the biggest increase in construction volumes in the last five years.
