Organic farming area and number of organic livestock decreased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the organic farming area in Estonia was 225,300 hectares, representing 22.8% of total utilised agricultural area. 92% of the organic farming area was fully converted and the rest was under conversion. In September, the consumer price index was influenced the most by housing- and food-related price increases

According to Statistics Estonia, in September, the consumer price index increased by 0.3% compared with August, and by 23.7% compared with September 2021. Goods were 19.9% and services 31.0% more expensive than in September last year.

Population census: the average home in Estonia is older than the average person

Data from the population and housing census conducted at the end of 2021 show that on average in Estonia, people’s homes are older than they are, and the number of households living in private houses has increased.

Population census: the share of people of foreign origin who consider themselves ethnic Estonians has grown

Data from the register-based population and housing census of 2021 reveal that 72.5% of Estonia’s population is made up of native people, i.e. persons with at least one parent and grandparent born in Estonia. At the time of the previous census, the share of the native populace was 75.3%, which means that the proportion of natives in the population has decreased by 2.8 percentage points, while the share of the foreign-origin population who consider themselves ethnic Estonians has increased.

Industrial production up 0.8% in August

According to Statistics Estonia, in August, the total production of industrial enterprises increased 0.8% at constant prices compared with August 2021. Output rose in two of the three sectors – up 10.2% in electricity production and as much as 121.4% in mining – but fell 3.7% in manufacturing.
