HICP flash estimate: prices up by 1.2% in April
According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in April 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) increased by 1.2% compared with March and by 4.4% compared with April last year.
GDP flash estimate: economy grew by 1.2% in Q1
According to Statistics Estonia’s preliminary estimate, in the first quarter of 2025, the gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 1.2% compared with the first quarter of last year.
Estonia produced 189.5 million eggs last year, one in two eggs eaten is locally produced
According to Statistics Estonia, 189.5 million eggs were produced in Estonia in 2024, which is 6% more than the year before. The average annual egg production was 138 eggs per person. Including imported eggs, 16.2 kg or 259 eggs per person were consumed during the year.
Estonia produces 71% of the meat consumed here
According to Statistics Estonia, 76,500 tonnes of meat were produced in Estonia in 2024, which is 1% more than the year before. The average annual meat production was 56 kg per person. Including imported meat, a total of 78 kg of meat per person were consumed during the year. 71% of the meat consumed in Estonia in 2024 was locally produced.
Producer price index of industrial output down by 0.5% in December
The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, fell by 1.1% in December 2025 compared with November and by 0.5% compared with December 2024. The index was affected the most by falling prices in the manufacture of fuel oils and in electricity and heat energy production.
Estonia’s population decreased by 7,041 according to preliminary data
The preliminary data of Statistics Estonia show that, on 1 January 2026, the population of Estonia was 1,362,954, which is 7,041 persons fewer than at the same time a year ago. In 2025, there were 9,092 births and 15,427 deaths. Based on preliminary data, net migration was negative again after several years – according to registered migration data, 11,298 people arrived in the country and 12,004 people left.
Exports of goods were up by 3% and imports by 7% in November
According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2025, Estonia’s exports of goods increased by 3% and imports by 7% compared with November 2024. Exports of goods amounted to over 1.6 billion euros and imports to more than 1.9 billion euros at current prices. Exports of goods of Estonian origin were down in November year on year.
The consumer price index rose by 4.8% last year
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2025, the consumer price index increased by 4.8% compared with the average of 2024. The price changes of food and non-alcoholic beverages had the biggest impact on the consumer price index in 2025.
Industrial production grew by 3.4% in November
According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2025, the total production of industrial enterprises increased by 3.4% at constant prices compared with the same month of 2024. Among the three main sectors, output increased by 10% in mining and by 4.5% in manufacturing but decreased by 8.7% in energy production.
The volume of retail trade turnover in November was unchanged year on year
According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2025, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 907 million euros. Compared with November 2024, the volume of retail trade turnover remained at the same level.
The producer price index of industrial output was up for the third month in a row
The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, increased by 0.2% in November 2025 compared with October and by 1.1% compared with November last year.
Dwelling price index down by 0.8% in the third quarter
According to Statistics Estonia, the dwelling price index fell by 0.8% in the third quarter of 2025 compared with the second quarter. In comparison with the third quarter of last year, however, the dwelling price index rose by 5.2%. There were more purchases of existing dwellings and fewer purchases of new developments.
Estonia’s environmental protection expenditure rose to €821 million
According to Statistics Estonia, Estonia’s environmental protection expenditure in real terms increased by nearly 56% in the period 2014–2023, that is, from €527 to €821 million. Compared with 2022, the expenditure was up by 13% in 2023. The share of environmental protection expenditure in GDP has decreased compared with 2014.
The number of tourists from Finland declined for the sixth consecutive month
According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments served 291,000 tourists in October 2025, which is 6% more than in October last year. There were 7% more foreign and 5% more domestic tourists than in the same month last year. The number of tourists from Finland decreased for the sixth month in a row.
Foreign trade increased slightly in October, exports of goods of Estonian origin decreased
According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2025, exports of goods increased by 5% and imports by 4% compared with October 2024. Exports of goods amounted to over 1.7 billion euros and imports to more than 2 billion euros at current prices. The share of goods of Estonian origin in total exports declined a little.
Job vacancies down by 5.4% in the third quarter
According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2025, there were 9,375 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions, and organisations of Estonia. This is 5.4% less than in the same quarter last year. In the third quarter, 5,432 persons left their job at the initiative of the employer.
