Young workers are turning away from the information and communication sector

Statistics Estonia's short-term labour market statistics show that over the past year and a half, there have been fewer young people aged 20–29 working in both the broader information and communication sector and the more specific field of computer programming. While in previous years the field of computer programming was growing mainly because of young people, in the past year their numbers have fallen.

Sown area of potatoes smaller than ever before

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia and the Agricultural Registers and Information Board (ARIB), the utilised agricultural area this year is 983,400 hectares, which is 4,400 hectares less than in 2023. There has been a slight decrease in arable land, as well as in the area of fruit and berry plantations. The sown area of potatoes, which has been in decline for a long time, continues the trend and is 8% smaller in 2024 than the year before.

Construction volumes decreased in 2014

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2014 the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and in foreign countries amounted to 2.1 billion euros, which is 3% less than in 2013. If only the Estonian construction market is considered, the construction volumes decreased 2%.

In the 4th quarter the Estonian economy grew 2.7%

According to the flash estimates of Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased 2.7% in the 4th quarter of 2014 compared to the 4th quarter of 2013. The annual GDP growth in 2014 was 1.8% compared to the previous year.

Last year Estonia exported goods worth 12.1 billion euros

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2014, exports from Estonia amounted to 12.1 billion euros and imports to Estonia to 13.7 billion euros at current prices. The trade deficit was 1.6 billion euros and it increased by 126 million euros compared to 2013.
