Young workers are turning away from the information and communication sector
Statistics Estonia's short-term labour market statistics show that over the past year and a half, there have been fewer young people aged 20–29 working in both the broader information and communication sector and the more specific field of computer programming. While in previous years the field of computer programming was growing mainly because of young people, in the past year their numbers have fallen.

Sown area of potatoes smaller than ever before
According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia and the Agricultural Registers and Information Board (ARIB), the utilised agricultural area this year is 983,400 hectares, which is 4,400 hectares less than in 2023. There has been a slight decrease in arable land, as well as in the area of fruit and berry plantations. The sown area of potatoes, which has been in decline for a long time, continues the trend and is 8% smaller in 2024 than the year before.

In May the number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased
According to Statistics Estonia, in May 237,000 foreign and domestic tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Estonia, which was 11% more than in the same month of the previous year. The number of tourists exceeded the May 2008 results, the best May month for accommodation establishments of the past decade, by 5%.

In May the trade deficit was the smallest of the year
According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2011 compared to the same month of the previous year, exports grew by 53% and imports by 44% at current prices. Due to a faster growth in exports compared to imports, also the foreign trade deficit decreased.

Last year the annual average monthly gross wages and salaries grew again after the fall
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2010, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 792 euros (12,397 kroons) and the hourly gross wages and salaries were 4.78 euros (74.84 kroons). Compared to 2009, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were by 1.1% higher and the average hourly gross wages and salaries were by 0.4% lower.
