Sown area of potatoes smaller than ever before

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia and the Agricultural Registers and Information Board (ARIB), the utilised agricultural area this year is 983,400 hectares, which is 4,400 hectares less than in 2023. There has been a slight decrease in arable land, as well as in the area of fruit and berry plantations. The sown area of potatoes, which has been in decline for a long time, continues the trend and is 8% smaller in 2024 than the year before.

The growth in the business sector has slowed down slightly

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2012, the net sales, costs and total profit of the business sector increased compared to the previous quarter as well as to the same quarter of the previous year. At the same time, the high comparison basis makes the growth rate slower.

Industrial production decreased in April

According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2012, the production of industrial enterprises decreased by 4% compared to the same month of the previous year. The decline in the production was mostly influenced by the manufacturing of electronic and metal products.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2012 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and foreign countries grew 28%, of which 29% on domestic market.

Actual working hours vary considerably

The average working week of men is three hours longer than that of women. A half of males employed and a third of females employed work overtime. This has been proved in Statistics Estonia’s publication “Time Use of the Population of Estonia” published today.
