In the 3rd quarter, the growth of average wages and salaries accelerated

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2018, the average monthly gross wages and salaries of enterprises, institutions and organisations were 1,291 euros, having increased by 7.5% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2017. The year-on-year growth in average monthly gross wages and salaries was 1.1 percentage points faster than in the previous quarter.

Construction volume increased in the 3rd quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2018 compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and foreign countries increased by 16%. Taking into account only Estonian construction market, construction volume increased by 18%.

Older persons are becoming more active in the labour market

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 3rd quarter of 2018, the unemployment rate was 5.2%, the employment rate was 68.2% and the labour force participation rate was 72%. The unemployment rate remained low and is similar to that of economic boom years. The employment rate and the labour force participation are even higher than during the boom years. Employment of older persons is at a record high.

In September, trade increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in September 2018, the exports and imports of goods both increased by 11% compared to September 2017. The growth in trade was affected the most by an increase in trade in mineral products (fuel additives, motor spirit).
