According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2016, the exports of goods increased by 4% and imports by 11% compared to May of the previous year. The imports of goods increased more than the exports of goods, resulting in an increase in the trade deficit.

30% of EKOMAR questionnaires were submitted by the deadline
30% of the enterprises whose submission deadline for the comprehensive annual questionnaire for enterprises (EKOMAR) was Friday, 1 July submitted the questionnaire by the deadline. At Wednesday’s meeting with enterprises submitting EKOMAR questionnaires, Statistics Estonia explains the importance of the collected data to enterprises and hopes to improve data collection in cooperation with them.

In May, the volume of industrial production decreased
According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2016, the production of industrial enterprises decreased 2% compared to May of the previous year. Production decreased in the energy sector and in mining and quarrying, but increased in manufacturing.

The turnover growth of retail trade enterprises accelerated further in May
According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2016 compared to May 2015, the turnover of retail trade enterprises increased 8% at constant prices. While in April the turnover increased 6% compared to the same month of the previous year, in May the turnover growth accelerated further.

According to Statistics Estonia, there were 3.1 million cinema visits in Estonia in 2015, which is an all-time record since the restoration of independence. A record number of films were screened in Estonian cinemas, with the majority of the films being European ones for the first time.

The economy grew in the 1st quarter
According to the revised estimates of Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased 1.7% in the 1st quarter of 2016 compared to the 1st quarter of the previous year.
