Organic farming area and number of organic livestock decreased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the organic farming area in Estonia was 225,300 hectares, representing 22.8% of total utilised agricultural area. 92% of the organic farming area was fully converted and the rest was under conversion. Compared with 2022, the organic farming area decreased by 2.5%, and 78 organic producers ceased activities.

In August, more tourists stayed in accommodation establishments than a year ago

According to Statistics Estonia, in August 2018, domestic and foreign tourists who stayed in accommodation establishments numbered 448,000, which is 3% more than in August 2017. Compared to August of the previous year, the number of domestic tourists increased and the number of foreign tourists stayed at the level of the previous year.

The use of sharing economy services is growing

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the share of internet users among 16–74-year-olds reached 89%, which is 1 percentage point more than a year ago. The share of internet users who ordered accommodation and transport services from private persons increased by 4 and 3 percentage points, respectively.

In July, fuel exports and imports increased trade

According to Statistics Estonia, in July 2018, the exports of goods increased by 27% and imports by 18% compared to July 2017. The growth in trade was affected the most by a significant increase in trade in mineral products (fuel additives, shale oil, motor spirit and heavy fuel oils). Mineral products trade increased in both quantity and value, exports tripled and imports doubled.

In the 2nd quarter, the number of job vacancies increased

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 2nd quarter of 2018, there were approximately 11,400 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. Compared to the 1st quarter of 2018, the number of job vacancies increased by 8%. However, compared to the 2nd quarter of 2017, the number of job vacancies decreased by 5%. The number of job vacancies has exceeded 10,000 since the 1st quarter of 2017.
