In the third quarter of 2023, the gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 3.9% compared with the same quarter of 2022. The GDP at current prices amounted to 9.4 billion euros.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the 1st quarter of 2017, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were 1,153 euros and the average hourly gross wages and salaries 7.13 euros. Compared to the 1st quarter of 2016, the average monthly gross wages and salaries increased 5.7% and the average hourly gross wages and salaries 3.9%. The year-over-year growth in average monthly gross wages and salaries was 1.2 percentage points slower than in the previous quarter and the year-over-year growth decelerated for the fourth successive quarter.

According to the guidelines of the Government of the Republic, Statistics Estonia is starting negotiations with mobile network operators to resume mobility analysis that was conducted last spring. The goal of the planned mobility analysis is to help evaluate the impact of adopted measures on the movement of people, direct communication and surveillance resources in Estonian regions and assess change in the risk of infection. Statistics Estonia used the same methodology for conducting mobility analysis during the emergency situation in spring 2020.

Helle Bunder, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that year-on-year growth in the output of the mining industry in September was mainly driven by peat production, while the increase in energy production was due to growth in electricity production. “In manufacturing, the volume of industrial production was down in slightly more than half of the manufacturing activities. According to Statistics Estonia, there were nearly 9,000 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia in the 4th quarter of 2016. Compared to the 3rd quarter, when the number of job vacancies reached a 7-year high, in the 4th quarter, the number of job vacancies decreased by 18%. Compared to the 4th quarter of 2015, the number of job vacancies increased by 37%.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2021, the biggest increase compared to the previous year occurred in people’s use of the internet for participating in online courses. The popularity of e-commerce also grew, with 62% of the population aged 16–74 having made online purchases. Among enterprises, the use of enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management software continues to increase. Enterprises are also trying out AI technologies.

Jane Leppmets, analyst at Statistics Estonia, noted that, compared with 2024, exports of services to European Union countries increased by 4% in the first quarter of this year, while imports from these countries grew by 8%. Exports of services to non-EU countries rose by 6% and imports from these countries increased by 18%. “The latter was mainly due to higher imports of services from Cyprus, the United Kingdom, and the United States. According to the second estimates of Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) of Estonia increased 1.3% in the 3rd quarter of 2016 compared to the 3rd quarter of the previous year. The biggest contribution to GDP growth was made in the economic activity of transportation, followed by trade and the energy sector.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the construction price index increased by 6.1% compared with the average of 2022. In the fourth quarter of last year, the construction price index increased by 0.9% compared with the third quarter. The index increased by 2.2% compared with the fourth quarter of 2022.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the second quarter of 2023, the total production value of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and abroad decreased by 12% at constant prices compared with the second quarter of 2022. Considering only the domestic market, the fall in construction volume was 14%.
