HICP flash estimate: prices up by 0.1% in May
According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in May 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists in Estonia, increased by 0.1% compared with April. Compared with May last year, the index rose by 4.6%.
How healthy are the people of Estonia?
Starting on 1 May, residents of Estonia will receive invitations to participate in the Estonian Health Interview Survey, which aims to assess the health status of the population, factors influencing it, and the use of health services. The survey covers the entire population of Estonia aged 15 and older.

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in April 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) increased by 1.2% compared with March and by 4.4% compared with April last year.
GDP flash estimate: economy grew by 1.2% in Q1
According to Statistics Estonia’s preliminary estimate, in the first quarter of 2025, the gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 1.2% compared with the first quarter of last year.
Exports of goods boosted by domestic products in November
According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2024, Estonia’s exports of goods grew by 3% from a year earlier, whereas imports remained at the same level. Exports of goods amounted to nearly €1.6 billion and imports to €1.7 billion at current prices. The trade deficit was €166 million, which is €53 million less than in November of the previous year.
The consumer price index rose by 3.5% in 2024
According to Statistics Estonia, in 2024, the consumer price index increased by 3.5% compared with the average of 2023. Price changes related to food and non-alcoholic beverages had the biggest impact on the consumer price index in 2024.
In November, the volume of industrial production was unchanged year on year
According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2024, the total production of industrial enterprises at constant prices was almost the same as in November 2023, falling by 0.1%. Among the three industrial sectors, output increased by 1.5% in manufacturing but decreased by 2.3% in mining and by 15.3% in electricity production.
Retail trade volume down by 1% year on year
According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2024, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was €884 million. Compared with November 2023, the volume of retail trade turnover decreased by 1%.
In manufacturing, prices have risen for several months in a row
According to Statistics Estonia, the producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, fell by 0.4% in November 2024 compared with October and by 0.1% compared with November last year.
The dwelling price index in Q3 down by 0.5% from Q2
According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2024, the dwelling price index fell by 0.5% compared with the second quarter. In comparison with the third quarter of last year, the index rose by 6.4%.
Estonia spent nearly 715 million euros on environmental protection in 2022
According to Statistics Estonia, Estonia’s environmental protection expenditure in real terms increased by nearly 37% in the period 2014–2022, that is, from 527 to 715 million euros. The environmental protection activity with the highest expenditure in 2022 was waste management with 347 million euros. The biggest environmental protection investments, worth 75 million euros, were made in wastewater management and protection of soil and water.
Study: Estonian Adults Among the Best in the World in Skills, Especially in Younger Generations
The latest results from The Survey of Adult Skills PIAAC highlight that Estonian adults perform exceptionally well in key skills, with the share of highly skilled individuals increasing since the last survey. At the same time, socioeconomic gaps have widened, and the proportion of low-skilled adults has grown. Estonia ranks 6th globally in overall skills, following Finland, Japan, Sweden, Norway, and the Netherlands.
The number of accommodated tourists was almost a tenth higher than in October last year
According to Statistics Estonia, accommodation establishments served 275,000 tourists in October 2024, which is 9% more than in the same month a year earlier. There were 15% more foreign and 4% more domestic tourists than in October 2023.
Exports of services up by 8% in the third quarter
According to Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank, in the third quarter of 2024, Estonia’s exports of services grew by 8% and imports by 2%. Exports of services totalled €3.2 billion and imports of services €2.4 billion at current prices. The balance of foreign trade in services was in surplus by €751 million, which is €180 million more than a year earlier.
Foreign trade grew in October, exports of goods of Estonian origin up by 17%
According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2024, Estonia’s exports of goods increased by 12% and imports by 10% compared with October 2023. Exports of goods amounted to nearly €1.7 billion and imports to nearly €2 billion at current prices. The trade deficit was €303 million.
Food prices increased in November, fuel and electricity prices decreased
According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2024, the consumer price index decreased by 0.4% compared with October and increased by 3.7% compared with November 2023. Goods were 2.5% and services 5.6% more expensive than in November last year.
