According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia and the Agricultural Registers and Information Board (ARIB), the utilised agricultural area this year is 983,400 hectares, which is 4,400 hectares less than in 2023. There has been a slight decrease in arable land, as well as in the area of fruit and berry plantations. According to Statistics Estonia, 22.5% of Estonia’s population lived at risk of poverty and 3.5% in absolute poverty in 2022. Foreign trade declined further in September

According to Statistics Estonia, in September, Estonia’s exports of goods amounted to almost 1.5 billion and imports to nearly 1.7 billion euros. Compared with the same month in 2022, exports of goods decreased by 24% and imports by 22% at current prices. The trade deficit in September was 207 million euros, which is 13 million euros more than in September last year.

In September, there was a significant rise in the number of accommodated tourists from Asia

According to Statistics Estonia, nearly 274,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in September 2023, which is 5% more than in September last year but 36% less than in August this year. Compared with September 2022, there were more foreign as well as more domestic tourists served by accommodation establishments.

Food prices had the biggest impact on the consumer price index in October

According to Statistics Estonia, in October, the consumer price index fell by 0.4% compared with September and rose by 4.9% compared with October 2022. Goods were 3.7% and services 7.0% more expensive than in October last year.

In September, production decreased significantly in the electronics industry

According to Statistics Estonia, in September 2023, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 12.5% at constant prices compared with the corresponding month of 2022. Output fell in two sectors: by 37.6% in electricity production and by 10.9% in manufacturing. In mining, output remained almost at the same level, as the decrease was just 0.3% year on year.

Retail trade turnover down by 7% in September

According to Statistics Estonia, in September, the turnover of retail trade enterprises was 869 million euros. Compared with September 2022, turnover decreased by 7% at constant prices.
