Estonia produces 71% of the meat consumed here

According to Statistics Estonia, 76,500 tonnes of meat were produced in Estonia in 2024, which is 1% more than the year before. The average annual meat production was 56 kg per person. Including imported meat, a total of 78 kg of meat per person were consumed during the year. 71% of the meat consumed in Estonia in 2024 was locally produced.

Construction volume decreased more than a fourth in the previous year

According to preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2009 the total production of Estonian construction enterprises in Estonia and in foreign countries amounted to 23.5 billion kroons, which is 28% less than a year earlier. The construction volumes which had started to decline in 2008 kept decreasing last year, too.

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2010 the percentage change in the producer price index was 0.4% compared to December 2009 and -0.7% compared to January 2009.

5497 persons participated in the e-census of the pilot Census of PHC 2011

According to Statistics Estonia, at midnight the e-census of the pilot Census of PHC 2011 came to an end. In the course of e-census, 5497 persons were enumerated via Internet. In March the pilot Census will be continued with face-to-face interviews, when the interviewers of Statistics Estonia visit the inhabitants who did not participate in e-census.

Over 3800 persons have participated in the pilot Census of PHC 2011

According to Statistics Estonia, the first stage of the 2011 Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011), when the people can enumerate themselves on the web, will end on Sunday. Since 5 March the enumerators of Statistics Estonia will be visiting those inhabitants of the regions of the pilot Census who did not participate in e-census or who did not complete the questionnaire.

The end of the year brought positive changes on the real estate market

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2009, 26,550 purchase-sale transactions of real estate with the total value of 18 billion kroons were notarised. If in the three first quarters of the year the number of purchase-sale transactions was smaller compared to the corresponding quarters of 2008, then in the 4th quarter a growth took place.

Long-term unemployment is increasing

According to Statistics Estonia, the unemployment rate rose to 15.5% in the 4th quarter of 2009, the annual average unemployment rate was 13.8%. Almost one third of the unemployed have been unemployed for a year or more.
