GDP flash estimate: economy contracted by 2.1% in Q1

According to Statistics Estonia’s preliminary estimate, the decline in the gross domestic product (GDP) slowed down in the first quarter of 2024. The GDP fell by about 2.1% compared with the first quarter of 2023.

In October, the industrial producer price index decreased

71 percent of the Estonian population prefer an online census

Most Estonian residents intend to participate in the Population and Housing Census, which begins at the end of the year. 71% of them prefer completing the census questionnaire online, as revealed by a recent survey of Kantar Emor.

Survey: most people are willing to update their register data, but only a few have done it

86% of Estonian people are willing to review and update their personal information in the population register and in the register of buildings before the population census begins at the end of this year. According to Statistics Estonia, in the third quarter of 2021, the labour force participation rate was 71.5%, the employment rate was 67.4%, and the unemployment rate was 5.7%.

The number of foreign tourists doubled in September

According to Statistics Estonia, in September 2021, Estonian accommodation establishments served over 214,000 tourists, which is 40% more than in the same month last year. The numbers of domestic tourists and foreign tourists both increased.

In September, Estonia’s foreign trade climbed to a record level

According to Statistics Estonia, in September, exports of goods increased by 30% and imports by 37% year on year. In the third quarter, exports grew by 34% and imports by 35%.

Poverty fell among households with three or more children but grew among single parents

According to Statistics Estonia, 2.2% of the population of Estonia lived in absolute poverty and 20.6% lived at risk of poverty in 2020. Compared to 2019, both the share of people who lived at risk of poverty and who lived in absolute poverty fell by 0.1 percentage points.
