HICP flash estimate: prices down by 0.5% in November

According to the preliminary estimate of Statistics Estonia, in November 2025, the harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP), which includes the expenditures of tourists, decreased by 0.5% compared with October. Compared with November last year, the HICP rose by 4.7%. This is a flash estimate, which will be refined once more detailed data on November prices are received.

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the exports of goods increased by 12% and imports by 10% compared to 2017. The exports and imports of mineral products had the greatest impact on trade growth in 2018.

In 2018, the number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased

According to Statistics Estonia, 3.6 million domestic and foreign tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Estonia in 2018, i.e. 1% more than in 2017. The number of domestic tourists increased and the number of foreign tourists decreased.

Consumer price index rose in January

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2019 compared to December 2018, the change of the consumer price index was –0.2% and compared to January of the previous year, 2.7%.

In 2018, the volume of industrial production increased

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the production of industrial enterprises increased by 4% compared to the previous year. Production rose in manufacturing and energy, but decreased in mining.

In December, the turnover of retail trade enterprises stayed at previous year’s level

According to Statistics Estonia, in December 2018, compared to December 2017, the turnover of retail trade enterprises remained at the same level at constant prices.

Milk production increased year-on-year

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, the production of milk amounted to 807,500 tonnes in 2018, which is 2% more than the year before. The number of dairy cows decreased by the end of the year, but the average milk yield per cow increased.

Cereal yield decreased by a third

According to Statistics Estonia, the average yield of cereals was 2,625 kilograms per hectare in 2018. This is a third less than in 2017.

Statistics Estonia to decide the population census method at the end of the year

Statistics Estonia will decide at the end of this year whether the 2021 Population and Housing Census will be register-based. The decision will be made based on the results and quality of the ongoing second trial census.

Construction price index growth accelerated year on year as well as quarter on quarter

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2018, the construction price index increased by 1.7% compared to the average of 2017. In the 4th quarter of 2018, compared to the 3rd quarter, the change of the construction price index was 0.8%, and compared to the 4th quarter of 2017, it was 1.7%.

Industrial producer price index continued to decrease in December

According to Statistics Estonia, in December 2018, the change of the producer price index of industrial output was -0.6% compared to November and 1.6% compared to December 2017.

The population of Estonia increased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, the preliminary estimate of the population of Estonia as at 1 January 2019 was 1,323,820, which is 4,690 persons more than at the same time a year ago.

In November, the number of tourists who stayed in accommodation establishments decreased

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2018, domestic and foreign tourists who stayed in accommodation establishments numbered 235,000, which is 1% fewer than in November 2017. Compared to November 2017, the number of domestic tourists increased and the number of foreign tourists decreased.
