Working international students and graduates contributed over 13 million euros in taxes in Estonia

Statistics Estonia prepared an analysis for the Estonian Education and Youth Authority on the economic impact of international students working in Estonia. It appeared that during the academic year 2019/2020, international students paid 10 million euros in income and social tax in Estonia and international graduates more than 3 million euros.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2023, the dwelling price index increased by 9.2% compared with the first quarter of 2022 and remained unchanged compared with the fourth quarter of 2022.

According to Statistics Estonia, in the first quarter of 2024, there were 9,598 job vacancies in the enterprises, institutions and organisations of Estonia. This is 16.3% less than in the same quarter last year. A little under 6,500 persons left their job at the initiative of the employer.
14% of enterprises use artificial intelligence technologies

According to Statistics Estonia's survey on information technology, the use of artificial intelligence-based technologies has risen significantly in 2024 compared with the previous year, and cyber security has become increasingly important. 5% of enterprises used at least one AI technology in 2023, whereas in 2024, this figure has risen to 14%. Of large enterprises, 10% said they had experienced a disclosure of confidential data.

Jane Leppmets, foreign trade analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the most significant changes in April concerned extra-EU trade. “Exports to EU countries were up by 8% and imports from the EU fell by 1%. In trade with non-EU countries, exports declined by 10% while imports grew by 16%. Year on year, there were decreased exports from Estonia to the United States, Russia and Singapore, and increased imports from Turkey and Switzerland,” explained Leppmets.
