According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in July 2020 was 0.0% compared to June 2020 and -0.9% compared to July 2019. Goods were 0.2% and services 2.0% cheaper.

Data from the 2021 census show that the share of people with higher education in Estonia is increasing and the share of people with basic education is decreasing. According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2022, the consumer price index changed by -0.1% compared to December 2021 and by 11.3% compared to January 2021. Goods were 9.0% and services 16.0% more expensive than in January last year.

In the population census online test survey, which started at the end of last year, Statistics Estonia received answers about 828 persons living at 410 addresses. Interviewers started working on 20 January and they will contact by phone the people who live at the addresses in the survey sample but who did not respond to the questionnaire online.

At the end of last year and beginning of this year, Statistics Estonia carried out the main rehearsal of the Population and Housing Census. 843 persons living at 422 addresses responded to the test survey online. Interviewers collected responses from 785 persons living at 410 addresses. The test survey response rate was 87.5% and the received feedback was generally positive.

Tea Vassiljeva, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that, in the first quarter, the labour market showed no signs of major changes in any direction. “There were 52,200 unemployed people in the first quarter, up by 5,100 from the fourth quarter of last year. This number is still significantly lower than in the first quarter of last year, when the number of unemployed people was very high,” noted Vassiljeva.
