Statistics Estonia is making preparations for Population and Housing Census 2021. In contrast to previous censuses, this time the majority of the required data will be obtained from state databases. People will answer only to the questions for which there are no data available in any of the databases.

According to the preliminary* data of Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the Estonian general government deficit was 3.4% and the debt level was 19.6% of the gross domestic product (GDP). At the end of last year, the total expenditures of the general government exceeded revenues by 1.3 billion euros.

Ülo Paulus, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, pointed out that in the third quarter of this year, compared with the same period in 2023, the construction price index was primarily influenced by a 6.4% increase in wages of workers. “On the other hand, the index was also affected by a 1% decrease in the price of building materials. Organic farming area and number of organic livestock decreased last year

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2023, the organic farming area in Estonia was 225,300 hectares, representing 22.8% of total utilised agricultural area. 92% of the organic farming area was fully converted and the rest was under conversion. Compared with 2022, the organic farming area decreased by 2.5%, and 78 organic producers ceased activities.
