In November, the number of tourists who stayed in accommodation establishments decreased
According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2018, domestic and foreign tourists who stayed in accommodation establishments numbered 235,000, which is 1% fewer than in November 2017. Compared to November 2017, the number of domestic tourists increased and the number of foreign tourists decreased.
In November 2018, 129,000 foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, i.e. 7% fewer than in November 2017. In November 2018, 83,0 00 tourists, i.e. 64% of the foreign tourists arrived from Finland, Russia and Latvia. Compared to November 2017, the number of tourists arriving from Latvia, Finland, Russia decreased by 8%, 13% and 5%, respectively. Fewer tourists came from several European countries – Sweden, Norway, Poland, France and Germany. At the same time, the number of tourists from China increased by a fifth. 73% of the foreign tourists preferred to stay in accommodation establishments in Tallinn. 8% of the foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in Pärnu city and 6% in both Tartu city and Ida-Viru county. 60% of foreign tourists were on a holiday trip and 31% on a business trip.
In November 2018, 106,000 domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, i.e. 9% more than in November 2017. 57% of domestic tourists were on a holiday trip and 30% on a business trip. 29% of the accommodated domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments in Harju county, 16% in Tartu county, 14% in Pärnu county and 12% in Ida-Viru county.
In November 2018, 950 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 20,000 rooms and 46,000 bed places were available for tourists. 42% of the rooms and 31% of the bed places were occupied. In November 2018, the average cost of a guest night was 37 euros, i.e. one euro less than in November 2017. The average cost of a guest night was 44 euros in Harju county, 31 euros in Ida-Viru county, 29 euros in Pärnu and in and 37 euros in Tartu counties.
