In February, the number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased
Compared to February 2017, the number of foreign tourists who used the services of accommodation establishments increased by 2%. Foreign tourists accounted for 55% of the total number of tourists. In February 2018, a total of 115,000 foreign tourists used the services of accommodation establishments. 45% of the accommodated foreign tourists came from Finland, 14% from Russia and 10% from Latvia. Compared to February 2017, less tourists arrived from Finland (5%) and Russia (7%), while the number of Latvian tourists increased by 8%. There was also an increase in the number of tourists arriving from Sweden, the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany. Fewer tourists from Norway and Lithuania stayed in accommodation establishments than in February 2017. Of the accommodated foreign tourists, 66% came to Estonia for holidays, 27% were on a business trip and the rest had some other reason for visiting Estonia. Three quarters of foreign tourists preferred the accommodation establishments of Tallinn.
In February 2018, domestic tourists who used the services of accommodation establishments numbered 95,000, which is 1% more than in February 2017. Of the domestic tourists, 64% were on a holiday trip and 22% on a business trip. 27% of the domestic tourists who used accommodation services stayed in the accommodation establishments of Harju county, 16% in Pärnu county, 15% in Tartu county and 11% in Ida-Viru county.
In February 2018, there were 943 accommodation establishments offering services for tourists. 19,000 rooms and 44,000 bed places were available for tourists. 39% of the rooms and 31% of the bed places were occupied. The average cost of a guest night was 36 euros, i.e. three euros more than in February 2017. The average cost of a guest night was 42 euros in Harju county, 35 euros in Tartu county, 26 euros in Pärnu county and 34 euros in Ida-Viru county.
