In 2015, the number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased
In 2015, 1.2 million domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 7% more than in 2014. 1.9 million foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 3% fewer than in 2014. Nearly two-thirds of foreign tourists arrived from neighboring countries, Latvia, Finland and Russia. The number of tourists from Russia fell by nearly a third and 1% fewer tourists from Finland stayed in accommodation establishments than in 2014. Even the increasing number of tourists from many other countries was not able to compensate for the decrease of the number of tourists arriving from the two neighboring countries. In 2015, 13% more tourists came from Latvia and there was also an increase in the number of tourists coming from Germany, Lithuania and the United Kingdom. The number of tourists from Asian countries increased throughout the year.
In December 2015, 233,000 domestic and foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which is 7% more than in December 2014.136,000 foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 7% more than in December 2014. There was an increase in the number of tourists arriving from the neighbouring countries Latvia and Finland (28% and 8%, respectively). The number of tourists arriving from Russia continues to decrease, but the decrease was smaller than in the previous months. In December 2015, 8% fewer tourists from Russia stayed in accommodation establishments than in December 2014. Out of the main tourism partner countries of Estonia, there was an increase in the number of tourists arriving from Germany, Sweden, United Kingdom and Asian countries. The number of tourists arriving from Lithuania and Norway decreased. 41% of the clients of accommodation establishments were domestic tourists. In December 2015, 97,000 domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which is 6% more than in December 2014.
In December 2015, 881 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 18,000 rooms and 41,000 beds were available for tourists. 41% of the rooms and 33% of the beds were occupied.
