In July, the number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased
According to Statistics Estonia, 458,800 tourists used the services of accommodation establishments in July 2015, which is 4% more than in July 2014. The number of both foreign and domestic tourists increased.
295,400 foreign tourists used the services of accommodation establishments, which is 1% more than in July 2014. 63% of the foreign tourists arrived from the neighbouring countries Finland, Russia and Latvia. The number of tourists from Finland, which had been declining in the five previous months, increased 3% in July. The number of tourists arriving from Russia continues to decrease. In July 2015, 22% fewer tourists stayed in accommodation establishments than in July 2014. The number of tourists from Latvia increased by a fifth. Out of the main tourism partner countries of Estonia, there was an increase in the number of tourists arriving from Germany, Lithuania, Spain and United Kingdom. Fewer tourists arrived from Sweden, Norway, France and Poland. The number of tourists arriving from Asian countries continues to increase.
36% of the clients of accommodation establishments were domestic tourists. In July 2015, 163,400 domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 10% more than in July of the previous year. 69% of the domestic tourists were on a holiday trip and 15% were on a business trip. 19% of the domestic tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Harju county, 14% in Pärnu county, 11% in Saare county and 8% in Ida-Viru county. Compared to July 2014, more domestic tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Harju and Saare counties — 14% and 15%, respectively. The number of domestic tourists in the accommodation establishments of Pärnu county stayed on the same level as in the previous year, the relevant indicator for Ida-Viru county decreased 6%.
In July, 1,308 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 22,800 rooms and 54,200 beds were available for tourists. 59% of the rooms and 52% of the beds were occupied. The average cost of a guest night was 34 euros and remained at last year's level. The average cost of a guest night was higher than the Estonian average in Harju and Pärnu counties where it cost 39 euros and 38 euros, respectively. The average cost of a guest night was 31 euros in Saare county and 29 euros in Ida-Viru county.
