In October, the number of tourists using the services of accommodation establishments increased
In October, 150,000 foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 1,400 foreign tourists more than in October of the previous year. The neighbouring countries are continually the largest tourism partner countries of accommodation establishments. 51% of the foreign tourists using the services of accommodation establishments arrived from Finland, 11% from Russia and 7% from Latvia. Compared to October 2013, the number of tourists arriving from Finland and Latvia increased by 2% and 12%, respectively. Also, compared to October 2013, there was an increase in the number of accommodated tourists from Sweden, the United Kingdom and Lithuania. The number of tourists arriving from Asian countries has increased during the entire year. 14% fewer tourists from Russia and 13% fewer tourists from Germany stayed in accommodation establishments than in October 2013.
73% of the foreign tourists who used the services of accommodation establishments stayed in the accommodation establishments of Tallinn. The next most popular destinations were the cities of Pärnu and Tartu, accounting for 7% and 4% of all accommodated foreign tourists, respectively. More than two-thirds of the foreign tourists were on a holiday trip and about a quarter was on a business trip.
In October, 88,000 domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 9% more than in October of the previous year. 30% of the accommodated domestic tourists stayed in Harju county, 15% in Pärnu county and 11% in Tartu county. 57% of the domestic tourists were on a holiday trip and 29% were on a business trip.
In October, 957 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 19,000 rooms and 44,000 beds were available for tourists. In October, the room occupancy rate was 41% and the bed occupancy rate was 32%. Compared to the summer high season, 14% fewer rooms and 20% fewer beds were available for tourists. The average cost of a guest night was 34 euros, which is one euro more than in October 2013. The average cost of a guest night in Tallinn was higher than the country’s average.
