Today, on 14 January, the Office of the Chancellor of Justice holds a seminar to present Statistics Estonia’s publication “Child Well-Being”. The publication covers all the main aspects of child well-being and gives an overview of child well-being in Estonia.

The following topics are covered in the publication: children’s environments and living conditions, family structure, financial situation, leisure opportunities, education, health and safety, the role of the social insurance system and welfare measures in supporting children, children’s opportunities for civic participation, and problems and attitudes related to parenting.

At the seminar the authors present the main findings of their analysis and outline the most important messages for the future. Opening remarks will be made by the Chancellor of Justice and Ombudsman for Children Mr Indrek Teder and by the Director General of Statistics Estonia Mr Andres Oopkaup.

“Child well-being is the foundation of a strong and healthy society,” said the Director General of Statistics Estonia Mr Andres Oopkaup. “The publication allows us to assess different aspects of child well-being and agree on a set of indicators to be used for measuring child well-being in the future,” he added.

This publication is the result of close cooperation between Statistics Estonia and contributors from the Office of the Chancellor of Justice, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Education and Research, the National Institute for Health Development, Tallinn University, the University of Tartu, the Estonian Health Insurance Fund and the Health Board. “The wide range of authors ensures a broad-based overview of child well-being in Estonia. This means that the issues highlighted in this publication are more likely to be taken into account by decision-makers, and greater attention will be paid to improving child well-being,” explained Oopkaup.

The presentation of the publication “Child Well-Being” takes place today, on 14 January, from 11:00 to 13:30 at the Office of the Chancellor of Justice (Kohtu 8, Tallinn).
