In June more tourists stayed in accommodation establishments than a year ago
According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2013, 4% more tourists stayed in accommodation establishments than in the same month of the previous year. The number of domestic tourists as well as foreign tourists increased.
In June, 313,000 tourists used the services of accommodation establishments, two thirds of them were foreign tourists. 44% of foreign tourists arrived from Finland, 10% from Russia, 9% from Germany and 5% from Latvia. From the neighbouring countries Finland, Russia and Latvia tourists arrived by 7%, 4% and 10% more than in June last year. Fewer tourists from Germany, as well as from several other European countries, stayed in accommodation establishments of Estonia than a year ago in June. However, 60% more tourists from Asian countries, whose share of the total number of foreign tourists using the services of accommodation establishments was 3%, stayed in accommodation establishments than in June last year. Characteristically of the tourist season the majority of foreign tourists (73%) were on holiday trips, a fifth was on business trips and the rest had some other reason for visiting Estonia. Characteristically of the tourist season 67% of foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments of Tallinn. Compared to low tourist season, when more than three quarters of foreign tourists use accommodation establishments of Tallinn, foreign tourists visit more accommodation establishments located in the counties during the summer.
In June, 102,000 domestic tourists or 5,000 more than in June 2012 stayed in accommodation establishments. 14% of domestic tourists used the services of accommodation establishments of Tallinn and their number increased 10% compared to June of the previous year.
In June, 1,163 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 21,000 rooms and 49,000 beds were available for tourists. The room occupancy rate was 50% and the bed occupancy rate 41%. The room occupancy rate and the bed occupancy rate were higher than the national average in Tallinn.
The average cost of a guest night was 33 euros and was a euro cheaper than in June of the previous year. The average cost of a guest night was 9 euros more expensive than the national average in Tallinn.
