In the 1st quarter there were nearly 7,000 job vacancies
The rate of job vacancies was 1.3% in the 1st quarter. The rate of job vacancies is the share of job vacancies in the total number of jobs (sum of occupied posts and vacancies).
The rate of job vacancies was the highest in other service activities (laundries, dry cleaning, beauty services, etc.) (3.5%), at the same time the share of all jobs of this economic activity in the total number of jobs is 1.1%.
The rate of job vacancies was the lowest in mining and quarrying (0.3%).
Compared to the 1st quarter of 2012, the rate of job vacancies increased most rapidly in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (by 1.4 percentage points).
The increase in the number of job vacancies was the biggest in administrative and support service activities, where there were 1.6 times more vacancies, compared to the 1st quarter of 2012.
Two thirds of job vacancies and slightly over a half of occupied posts are in Harju county (incl. Tallinn). The rates of job vacancies were the highest in Pärnu and Harju counties (1.8% and 1.6%, respectively).
25% of the job vacancies were in the public sector and 75% in the private sector. The rate of job vacancies was 1.2% in the public sector and 1.4% in the private sector. The public sector includes companies owned by the state or local government.

In 2012, on an average 69,500 employees in a quarter were engaged and left their jobs in total (labour turnover). The increase in labour turnover was 8.3% compared to 2011.
A job vacancy is a paid post that is newly created, unoccupied or becomes vacant when an employee leaves, and for which the employer is actively trying to find a suitable candidate from outside the enterprise, institution or organisation concerned.
The data are based on the job vacancies and labour turnover survey conducted by Statistics Estonia since 2005. In 2013, the sample included 11,740 enterprises, institutions and organisations.
