The number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased
According to Statistics Estonia, during the ten months of 2011, 2.34 million domestic and foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments of Estonia or the same amount as in 2007 as total. The number of tourists also increased compared to the same period of the previous year.
From January to October 2011, 1.56 million foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments of Estonia or 16% more than in the same period of the previous year. 721,000 foreign tourists or 46% of the total number of tourists using the services of accommodation establishments who stayed in accommodation establishments of Estonia came from Finland, which is continually the main tourism partner country of Estonia. Compared with the same period a year ago, the number of tourists from Finland increased only by 800, while the number of tourists from Russia increased by 50,000, from the United Kingdom by 30,000, and from Germany by 18,000 tourists. During the ten months of 2011, correspondingly 10%, 6% and 4% of the total number of foreign tourists using the services of accommodation establishments came from Russia, Germany and the United Kingdom. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the number of tourists from Ireland tripled and the number of tourists from China doubled. During the ten months of 2011, the number of tourists arriving from Ireland and China amounted to 6,000 and 5,000, respectively.
From January to October 2011, 780,000 domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments. The number of domestic tourists was still lower than in the same period of 2007 and 2008, when more than 800,000 domestic tourists used the services of accommodation establishments. At the same time 72,000 domestic tourists more stayed in accommodation establishments than during the ten months of 2010.
In October 213,000 domestic and foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 11% more than in the same month of the previous year. 809 accommodation establishments provided services for tourists. 17,600 rooms and 39,300 beds were available for tourists. The room occupancy rate was 44% and the bed occupancy rate 35%. The average cost of a guest night in an accommodation establishment was 28 euros being two euros more expensive compared to October 2010.
