Statistics Estonia: Enumerators will start visiting people from 16 February
The enumerators will visit people in the Population and Housing Census starting at the end of the year only during the period 16.02 – 31.03.2012 and present their employment certificate with a photo issued by Statistics Estonia. “We have received signals that in some places of Estonia there have been seen persons going from door to door and presenting themselves as enumerators. Fortunately people are aware of the fact that the enumerators will start visiting homes only in February and have not let in the persons presenting them as enumerators,” spoke Ms Diana Beltadze, the Project Manager of the Population and Housing Census (PHC 2011).
Ms Maris Post, the Fieldwork Organisation Chief of the Population Census emphasised that before 16 February the enumerators will not visit people. “It is essential to remember that our enumerators will always present the employment certificate with a photo issued by Statistics Estonia and wear a scarf with the symbols of the Population Census,” explained Ms Maris Post.
“We also ask all people to keep this in mind during the Population Census period and not to let in their homes persons who present themselves as enumerators but who do not have the corresponding employment certificate. Security is extremely important as we wish the Population Census to be a pleasant experience for all residents,” added Ms Maris Post, the Fieldwork Organisation Chief of the Population Census.
In Estonia, the Population and Housing Census will be carried out from 31 December this year until 31 March next year. During the first month (31.12.2011 – 31.01.2012) the electronic Population Census or e-Census will take place, where the permanent residents of Estonia can fill out questionnaires on the Internet. Those who do not participate in the e-Census will be visited by enumerators in the period 16.02 – 31.03.2012. The enumerators will not visit people at any other time.
