In July, more tourists stayed in accommodation establishments than a year ago
312,000 foreign tourists and 186,000 domestic tourists used the services of accommodation establishments. Less foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments than in July of the previous year, but there were 8% more domestic tourists. The number of foreign tourists was mainly affected by a 9% decrease in the number of Finnish tourists. 4% less foreign tourists came also from Germany. At the same time, there were 13% more Russian tourists and 7% more Latvian tourists staying at accommodation establishments. The number of tourists from Asian countries, Sweden, Spain and the UK also increased.
188,000 foreign tourists, i.e 60% of the foreign tourists who used accommodation services stayed in the accommodation establishments of Tallinn. The second most popular destination was Pärnu city, accounting for 12% of all accommodated foreign tourists, followed by Tartu city, which accounted for 7% of the accommodated foreign tourists. Saare county accounted for 5% and Ida-Viru county for 4% of the foreign tourists who used accommodation services. Most (80%) of the foreign tourists were on a holiday and 13% on a business trip.
37% of the customers of accommodation establishments were domestic tourists. 71% of them were on a holiday and 14% on a business trip. 19% of the accommodated domestic tourists stayed in Harju county, 15% in Pärnu county, 10% in Ida-Viru county and 9% in both Tartu county and Saare county.
In July, 1,364 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 24,000 rooms and 57,000 beds were available for tourists. 61% of the rooms and 53% of the beds were occupied. The average cost of a guest night was 38 euros, i.e. four euros more than in the same month of the previous year. The average cost of a guest night was 46 euros in Harju county, 40 euros in Pärnu county, 32 euros in Saare county, 31 euros in Tartu county and 30 euros in Ida-Viru county.
