In November, more tourists stayed in accommodation establishments than a year ago
Compared to November 2015, the number of tourists who used the services of accommodation establishments increased by 8,500. Foreign tourists accounted 60% of the total number of tourists. In November 2016, a total of 129,000 foreign tourists used the services of accommodation establishments – 4% more than in November 2015. 78% of the foreign tourists came from European Union countries. 49% of the accommodated foreign tourists came from Finland, 13% from Russia and 9% from Latvia. Compared to November 2015, the number of tourists arriving from Finland, Russia and Latvia has increased by 2%, 17% and 16%, respectively. Also, there was an increase in the number of tourists arriving from Sweden, Lithuania, Norway and the United Kingdom. 66% of the accommodated foreign tourists came to Estonia for holidays, 26% were on a business trip and the rest had some other reason for visiting Estonia. Foreign tourists mainly preferred the accommodation establishments of Tallinn (77% of accommodated foreign tourists), Pärnu city (7%), Tartu city (5%) and Ida-Viru county (3%).
In November, domestic tourists who used the services of accommodation establishments numbered 86,000, i.e. 3,000 domestic tourists more than in November 2015. 57% of the domestic tourists were on a holiday trip and 31% on a business trip. 32% of the domestic tourists who used accommodation services stayed in the accommodation establishments of Harju county, 15% in Pärnu county, 13% in Tartu county and 9% in Ida-Viru county.
In November, 915 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 19,000 rooms and 43,000 beds were available for tourists. 41% of the rooms and 31% of the beds were occupied. The average cost of a guest night was 36 euros or the same as a year earlier. The average cost of a guest night was 41 euros in Harju county, 34 euros in Tartu county, 28 euros in Pärnu county and 29 euros in Ida-Viru county.
