Compared to October 2015, goods were 1.0% more expensive and services 0.1% cheaper. Regulated prices of goods and services have risen by 3.8% and non-regulated prices have fallen by 0.2% compared to October of the previous year.
Compared to October 2015, the consumer price index was influenced the most by alcoholic beverages and tobacco having become 8.1% more expensive, which was mainly due to the implementation of new excise duty rates in 2016. In this commodity group, alcoholic beverages have become 7.5% and tobacco 9.5% more expensive. More expensive motor fuel and 2.8% cheaper electricity, heat energy and fuels also had a bigger impact on the index. The majority of the impact of the latter commodity group was due to 5.8% cheaper heat energy and 11.3% cheaper gas. Compared to the period a year ago, diesel fuel was 7.7% and petrol 6.9% more expensive. Compared to October 2016, of food products, the prices of processed fruit (29%) and fresh fish (22%) have increased the most, while the prices of fresh vegetables have decreased the most (15%).
In October compared to September, the consumer price index was influenced the most by 1.6% cheaper food, 70% of which was due to the seasonal price decrease of vegetables and fruit (by 6.6% and 5%, respectively). 4.9% more expensive electricity and 1.8% more expensive motor fuel also had a bigger impact on the index.
