According to Statistics Estonia, in June 2016, the production of industrial enterprises decreased 5% compared to June of the previous year. Production decreased in mining and quarrying and manufacturing, but increased in the energy sector.

The about 60% decrease in mining production was caused by the oil-shale mining decline due to low demand caused by the low price of oil and oil-shale products.

In June, manufacturing production fell 1% compared to June 2015. The decline in production was mostly due to a decrease in the manufacture of electronic, wood and food products. Production did not achieve the volume of the previous year in more than half of the branches of industry. Among the branches of industry holding larger shares, production fell also in the manufacture of metal products and machinery and equipment. Production rose in the manufacture of electrical equipment, textiles and furniture.

In June, 70% of the whole production of manufacturing was sold on the external market. According to unadjusted data, the domestic sales of manufacturing production rose 3%, export sales remained on the same level as in June 2015.

In June 2016 compared to the previous month, the seasonally adjusted total industrial production fell 3%, with production in manufacturing having decreased 1%.

Compared to June 2015, the production of electricity increased 23% and the production of heat decreased 11%.

a In the case of the seasonally adjusted volume index of industrial production, the impact of the differing number of working days in a month and seasonally recurring factors have been eliminated. It is calculated only in comparison with the previous period.

b In the case of the working-day adjusted volume index of industrial production, the impact of the differing number of working days in a month has been eliminated. It is calculated only in comparison with the corresponding period of the previous year.

The statistics are based on the questionnaires “Industry”, the submission date of which was 15.07.2016, and “Energy production, sales and fuel consumption”, the submission date of which was 10.07.2016. Statistics Estonia published the monthly overview in 10 working days.
