In April, the consumer price index was influenced the most by energy

According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in April 2016 was 0.0% compared to March 2016 and -0.8% compared to April of the previous year.

Compared to April 2015, goods were 1.2% cheaper, while the prices of services remained on the same level. Regulated prices of goods and services have fallen by 2.8% and non-regulated prices have stayed on the same level as in April of the previous year.

Compared to April 2015, the consumer price index was influenced the most by electricity, heat energy and fuels, which became 6.5% cheaper, with 11% cheaper heat energy accounting for nearly three-quarters of the fall. Motor fuel also had a bigger impact on the index, as it became 10% cheaper, with petrol having become 9.1% and diesel fuel 12.4% cheaper. Compared to April 2015, liquid fuel has become 25% and sugar 24% more expensive, and low-fat milk and butter have become 13% cheaper.

In April compared to March, the consumer price index was influenced the most by 5% more expensive petrol. 0.5% cheaper food also had a bigger impact on the index, with 1.3% cheaper meat and meat products and 4.8% cheaper cheese accounting for the major part of the change.
