In October the number of tourists in accommodation establishments increased
According to Statistics Estonia, in October 2015, 251,000 tourists stayed in accommodation establishments which is 5% more than in October 2014. The number of both foreign and domestic tourists increased.
In October, 158,000 foreign tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 5% more than in October 2014. 80,000 i.e. half of the total number of foreign tourists who stayed in accommodation establishments of Estonia came from Finland, which continues to be the main tourism partner country of Estonia. The number of tourists from Finland, which has been decreasing for most months of the year, increased 4%. Both Latvia and Russia accounted for 8% of foreign tourists. 24% more tourists from Latvia and 29% fewer tourists from Russia stayed in accommodation establishments than in October of the previous year. The number of tourists arriving from Asian countries continues to increase – in October, there were 48% more tourists arriving from Asian countries than in the same month a year ago. 77% of the foreign tourists who used the services of accommodation establishments stayed in Tallinn. The next most popular destinations were the cities of Pärnu and Tartu, where respectively 6% and 4% of the foreign tourists using the services of accommodation establishments stayed.
37% of the clients of accommodation establishments were domestic tourists. In October 2015, 92,000 domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments, which was 5% more than in October 2014. 57% of the domestic tourists were on a holiday trip and 29% were on a business trip. 28% of the domestic tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Harju county, 14% in Pärnu county and 11% in both Ida-Viru and Tartu counties.
In October, 971 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 19,000 rooms and 43,000 beds were available for tourists. 46% of the rooms and 36% of the beds were occupied. The average cost of a guest night was 35 euros and was a euro more than in October of the previous year. The average cost of a guest night was higher than the Estonian average in Harju county where it cost 42 euros.
