In December, the consumer price index was influenced the most by the cheaper prices of motor fuel
According to Statistics Estonia, the change of the consumer price index in December 2014 was 0.0% compared to November 2014 and -0.5% compared to December 2013.
Compared to December 2013, goods were 1.3% cheaper and services 0.9% more expensive. Regulated prices of goods and services have fallen by 1.9% and non-regulated prices by 0.1% compared to December 2013.
Compared to December 2013, the consumer price index was influenced the most by 14.1% cheaper motor fuel. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco also had a bigger impact on the index, as their prices increased by 2.3% and 7.5% respectively, compared to the same month of 2013. Compared to December 2013, of food products, the prices of coffee have increased the most (20%) and the prices of sugar have decreased the most (41%).
In December compared to November, the consumer price index was mainly influenced by motor fuel as its prices fell by 8.6%. The plane tickets bought for December were 32% more expensive than in November. The small price increase of food and non-alcoholic beverages was mainly due to the increase in the prices of fruit (2.7%), coffee (5.2%) and vegetables (1.6%). Compared to November, the prices of sweet pepper and grapes increased the most (36% and 35%, respectively) and the prices of mandarins decreased the most (21%).
