In February the number of tourists staying in accommodation establishments increased
According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2012, 152,000 tourists stayed in the accommodation establishments of Estonia. The number of both domestic and foreign tourists increased by 6% compared to February of the previous year.
February, 85,000 foreign tourists used the services of accommodation establishments, which was the record result in February. Compared to February last year, 4,500 foreign tourists more stayed in accommodation establishments. The services of accommodation establishments used more tourists from Estonia’s neighbouring countries Russia, Latvia, Sweden and Norway as well as from Germany and United Kingdom. The number of tourists from Finland, accounting for 46% of the total number of accommodated foreign tourists in February, decreased by 5%. Tallinn was still a popular destination among foreign tourists. 79% of tourists from Finland, 65% from Russia, 49% from Latvia and 77% from Sweden, who had used accommodation services, stayed in accommodation establishments of the capital.
44% of the clients of accommodation establishments were domestic tourists. 4,000 domestic tourists more used the services of accommodation establishments, compared to February 2011. 27% of domestic tourists stayed in accommodation establishments of Harju county, 13% both in Tartu and Pärnu county, and 11% in Valga county.
In February, 775 accommodation establishments offered services for tourists. 16,900 rooms and 37,400 bed-places were available for tourists, which is about 1,000 bed-places more than in February a year ago. The room occupancy rate was 34% and the bed occupancy rate was 27%.
The average cost of a guest night in an accommodation establishment was 29 euros, which is 3 euros more than in February 2011.
