In July trade in machinery and equipment increased the most

According to Statistics Estonia, in July compared to July of the previous year, exports grew by 32% and imports by 23% at current prices. Exports of machinery and equipment increased by 61% and imports by 69%.

In July 2010 exports of goods from Estonia amounted to 10.9 billion kroons (697 million euros) and imports to Estonia to 11.6 billion kroons (740 million euros). Compared to July 2009, exports increased by 2.7 billion kroons (170 million euros) and imports by 2.2 billion kroons (138 million euros). The trade deficit amounted to 0.7 billion kroons (43 million euros), which was nearly two times less than in July of the previous year.

In July, the biggest share in Estonia’s exports was held by the commodities of machinery and equipment (22% of Estonia’s total exports), mineral products (15%) and metals and products thereof (10%). Compared to July of the previous year, exports of machinery and equipment increased by 61% or 0.9 billion kroons (58 million euros). Exports of metals and products thereof and wood and products thereof also increased. Machinery and equipment were mainly exported to Sweden and Finland, metals and products thereof to Finland and Turkey and wood and products thereof to Finland, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

In July the biggest share in Estonia’s imports was held by machinery and equipment (23% of Estonia’s total imports), mineral products (18%) and agricultural products and food preparations (11%). Compared to July of the previous year, arrivals of machinery and equipment increased by 69% or 1.1 billion kroons (70 million euros). Imports of transport equipment and metals and products thereof also increased significantly. Machinery and equipment were mainly imported from Sweden and Finland, transport equipment from Germany and Sweden and metals and products thereof from Finland and Germany.

The main countries of destination for Estonia were Finland (16% of Estonia’s total exports), Sweden (13%) and Russia (13%). Compared to July of the previous year, exports to Sweden, Russia and China increased the most. Mineral products were mainly exported to China.

The main countries from where goods were imported to Estonia were Finland (16% of Estonia’s total imports), Germany and Latvia (11% from each). The biggest increase was announced in the imports from Sweden and Poland.

In the period of January–July 2010 exports of Estonia increased by 24% and imports 20% compared to the same period of the previous year. According to Eurostat, exports of EU countries increased by 16% during the same period.
