  3. 12. Responsible Consumption and Production
The focus of the global goal “Responsible Consumption and Production” is sustainable production and consumption patterns, more efficient use of resources and activities that reduce human impact on the environment and health. The 2030 Agenda lays down implementing the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns. The essence of the programmes is sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources. Food waste must be reduced by a half and food losses must be reduced in production and supply chains. The agenda highlights the need for environmentally

  2. Survey on Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE)
What kind of survey is it? The SHARE (Survey on Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe) international survey collects data on the health, employment, and retirement of people over the age of 50. Who commissions the survey? Until 2023, SHARE was coordinated by the Munich Center for the Economics of Aging (MEA) at the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy in Germany. As of 2023, SHARE is led by the new dedicated SHARE BERLIN Institute, based in Berlin. The countries conducting the SHARE survey established SHARE ERIC, an international rights organisation, in 2011. 4. Crop farming survey
What kind of survey is it? The crop farming survey provides data about areas under cultivation and harvested areas of agricultural crops, production and yield, fertilisers, organic farming, liming, seed use, and autumn sowings of winter crops. A large part of the data are obtained from registers (for example, data on areas under cultivation are received from the Agricultural Registers and Information Board, and data on harvested areas and production are obtained from the electronic field book in e-ARIB), and the rest are collected from respondents with the survey. Why are these data needed

The focus of the global goal “Sustainable Cities and Communities” is problems related to rapid urbanisation. Although cities are sources of innovation and exhibit fast growth in the number of jobs as well as economic growth, urbanisation also causes problems, such as poor living conditions, air pollution, poor access to services and lacking infrastructure. The 2030 Agenda includes a global target to ensure everybody adequate, safe, affordable housing and basic services, and improve slums. Efficient waste management and availability of transport networks, especially of public transport, is

The focus of the global goal “Life on Land” is sustainable use and efficient protection of terrestrial ecosystems and the species living there. Protected and conserved ecosystems and biodiversity help to reduce human pressure on the environment and mitigate natural disasters. Ecosystems that are healthy and have integrity maintain resilience to the impacts of climate change and benefit the populations depending on these ecosystems. The 2030 Agenda emphasises the need to implement first the prior global agreements (Convention on Biological Diversity, the Nagoya Protocol, etc.). It is important

Data-based reporting for reducing administrative burden The project Data-based reporting developed from the Zero Bureaucracy initiative. It provides a solution for the automatic exchange of data required by the state, based on the principles of simplicity and minimum burden. Data-based reporting is a joint project of the Estonian Tax and Customs Board, Statistics Estonia and Eesti Pank. As of 2024, several other institutions have joined the project (such as the Centre of Registers and Information Systems, the Environmental Board etc.). The first stage is reducing enterprises’ burden in the

What is Intrastat?

Intrastat (Intra-EU Trade Statistics) is the special data system for collecting statistics on the trade in goods between the Member States of the European Union (EU). The Intrastat system became operational in 1993 with the creation of the EU Common Market when the customs checks on the EU internal borders disappeared. This meant that the production of foreign trade statistics using the data from customs declarations was no longer possible. Consequently, it became necessary to collect the data directly from economic units engaging in foreign trade.

Waste and circular economy

  2. Waste and circular economy
The world produces more than it can consume. The ever-increasing amount of waste is causing problems everywhere. Also items that can be reused or recycled reach landfills. Landfilling of hazardous waste affects the quality of soil, drinking water and air. To save natural resources and the environment, more attention should be paid to the correct sorting, reduction and reuse of waste and various materials. Waste statistics tell us how much garbage is generated in Estonia every year; how much waste is stored in landfills; how much waste is reused; how much waste is used for energy production
