Producer price index down for the third month in a row

The producer price index of industrial output, which expresses changes in the producer prices of industrial goods manufactured in Estonia for the domestic market and for export, decreased by 0.4% in March 2023 compared with February 2023 and increased by 7.9% compared with March 2022.

Industrial production up in mining and electricity production, down in manufacturing

According to Statistics Estonia, in February 2024, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 5.7% at constant prices compared with the corresponding month a year earlier. Production increased by 19.3% in mining and by 2.6% in electricity production but decreased by 7% in manufacturing.

In October, the consumer price index rose by 4.1% year on year

Lauri Veski, team lead of consumer price statistics at Statistics Estonia, said that, compared with October 2023, the consumer price index was affected the most by price changes related to food and non-alcoholic beverages, recreation, and phone services. “Among food products, the higher prices of non-alcoholic beverages (+20.4%), fruits (+12.4%) and vegetables (+5.5%) drove up the index the most compared with October last year. According to Statistics Estonia, in May 2024, Estonia’s exports of goods decreased by 6% and imports by 13% compared with May 2023. Exports of goods amounted to nearly €1.6 billion and imports to almost €1.7 billion at current prices. The trade deficit was €144 million, which is €170 million less than in May last year.

According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2024, the total production of industrial enterprises decreased by 8.6% at constant prices compared with January 2023. Among the three main sectors, output fell by 11.9% in manufacturing and remained almost the same in mining, falling by just 0.6%. In energy production, output increased by 15%.

The trade deficit was almost two times smaller in November

According to Statistics Estonia, in November 2023, Estonia’s exports of goods amounted to 1.5 billion and imports to 1.7 billion euros. Compared with November 2022, exports of goods decreased by 12% and imports by 19% at current prices. The trade deficit in November was 200 million euros, which is 198 million euros less than a year earlier.
