Personal surveys

Leaving out the population and housing census mandatory for all, personal surveys are mostly voluntary. For social surveys, we collect data from individuals if the data cannot be obtained from databases. Statistics Estonia conducts various surveys, for example, on the working life, travel and time use of the population. The surveys vary in frequency, some lasting a month or two, others for two years. According to Statistics Estonia, in April 2011, the exports of goods from Estonia amounted to 1.1 billion euros and imports to Estonia to 1.2 billion euros at current prices. Exports as well as imports of goods exceeded the highest turnover so far or the turnover of March this year. The growth in trade was significantly influenced by the machinery and equipment and mineral products.

Exports is the exportation of goods produced in Estonia and exportation of goods imported from a foreign country. It includes temporary exportation of goods for the purpose of processing abroad, re-exportation after processing in Estonia and supplies for foreign vessels and aircraft. Exports does not include transit and services. Data on exports to EU countries are based on Intrastat questionnaires collected by Statistics Estonia, supplemented with estimates and administrative data. According to Statistics Estonia, in July, 346,000 tourists stayed in Estonian accommodation establishments. Their total number of nights spent was 652,000. Compared to July 2019, the number of tourists dropped by a third, but the number was higher than in the last few months.

Today, on 14 January, the Office of the Chancellor of Justice holds a seminar to present Statistics Estonia’s publication “Child Well-Being”. The publication covers all the main aspects of child well-being and gives an overview of child well-being in Estonia.

Project on emptying blocks of flats

At the request of the Ministry of Finance, Statistics Estonia analyses the electricity consumption of blocks of flats to identify empty dwellings across Estonia. This is a further step towards tackling the problem of empty blocks of flats at national and municipal level.

Gender pay gap

Gender pay gap refers to the difference between the average gross hourly wages and salaries of male and female employees by economic activity at the letter code level. Part-time employees' earnings are also taken into account when comparing gross hourly wages and salaries. Hourly wages and salaries are used to calculate the gender pay gap on the basis of a pan-European methodology. The gender pay gap is calculated by subtracting the average gross hourly wages and salaries of female employees from those of male employees and dividing the difference by the average gross hourly wages and salaries
