How great is inequality in Estonia and how is it divided? As part of the analysis, 11 person profiles were created to depict social gaps and inequality in Estonia. The profiles included a person’s household type, number of children in the household, as well as age, sex, education, ethnic nationality, place of residence, disability and its degree, income, employment, benefits received, distance between place of residence and place of work, health status and satisfaction with life.
Number of foreign tourists up by 15% in November

Helga Laurmaa, leading analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that 119,000 foreign and 128,000 domestic tourists were accommodated in Estonia in November 2024. The number of domestic tourists, which was in decline for most months in 2024 year on year, took an upturn in October 2024 and continued this trend in November. Still, the number of tourists remained 6% smaller than in November of 2019, the pre-pandemic record year. “Compared with November 2019, there were 12,000 more domestic tourists accommodated, while the number of foreign tourists was lower by 27,000 in November 2024,” added Laurmaa

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2019, there were 82,500 amateurs of folk culture in Estonia. 59,000 of them sang in choirs or danced in folk dance groups. The most folk culture amateurs per thousand inhabitants were in Võru county and the least in Ida-Viru county.
Retail trade volume up by 2% in May

In comparison with May 2024, turnover volume grew by 13% in enterprises engaged in the retail sale of automotive fuel and by 5% in stores selling manufactured goods. Johanna Linda Pihlak, analyst at Statistics Estonia, said that the decline in the volume of turnover in grocery stores accelerated in May, falling by 5% compared with the same period last year. “The decrease in May was influenced by the continued rise in food prices. The Cultural Participation Survey conducted by Statistics Estonia reveals that over half a million people in Estonia went to the cinema at least once last year. Almost the same number of people attended a concert. Overall, 79% of residents aged 15 and over participated in a cultural event in 2023.
