Immigration offset the high number of deaths; the population increased

According to Statistics Estonia, on 1 January 2022, the population of Estonia was 1,331,796, which is 1,728 persons more than at the same time a year ago. In 2021, there were 13,272 births and 18,587 deaths in Estonia. Based on migration data, 19,524 persons immigrated to Estonia and 12,481 persons emigrated from Estonia.

Exports and imports reached a record high in March

According to Statistics Estonia, in March 2022, Estonia’s exports of goods increased by 35% and imports by 31% compared to March 2021. Compared to the first quarter of last year, exports grew by 30% and imports by 34%. In March and in the first quarter as a whole, trade was primarily boosted by the increased exports and imports of mineral fuels and electricity.

Industrial production growth accelerated in March

According to Statistics Estonia, in March 2022, the total production of industrial enterprises increased by 7.8% at constant prices compared to March 2021. Output increased in all three sectors: by 6.6% in manufacturing, 5.2% in mining, and 21.3% in energy production.

Gender pay gap was the smallest on record

According to Statistics Estonia, in 2021, the gross hourly earnings of female employees were 14.9% smaller than the earnings of male employees. The gender pay gap decreased by 0.7 percentage points year on year.
